Back to School Internet Marketing

So this is just my crappy mmo blog and I had no clue about keywords or anything when I set it up (obviously) but I am still gonna put my thoughts out there and maybe tip my hat to a couple of friends while I do it. I already finished school myself but I noticed all of the “back to school” stuff recently and it made me think about internet marketing and building up passive income and stuff.

I had a mental breakthrough lately and I owe a large part of it to others who have taught me so well.

Back to school means back to work. I know everyone who has made it through school knows what it is like to pull an all nighter and really get some serious work done. School is work. Making a successful adsense startup is no different than this.

Now the biggest influence on this line of thinking was definitely Ben over at make money online with seo. The guy is a freaking machine and he is smart and he’s got guts. Flat out, he inspired a lot of this.

Now another huge influence on me has always been Griz of make money online fame. Another genius and I am sure he works like a freaking demon as well, though most of his work he never shows to his readers I am sure. For example, he once explained how he worked feverishly for a couple days straight in order to capitalize on some current events traffic and he made a killing doing it. All in good fun for him I am sure.

Then of course there is Court and Mark of internet marketing fame. They have been instrumental in getting me closer to this recent breakthrough as well. They have an internet marketing school and it is dirt cheap for what you get. I am not into figuring out the affiliate link right now so just go Google them or something and sign up, etc. They offer a killer value and you cannot go wrong. Flat out. They preach that search engine traffic is the way to make money and I believe them. No need to debate social media over organic search anymore as these guys show you how to kill it by ranking for great keywords in the search engines.

So here was my breakthrough:

I started working harder on the stuff that mattered.

Really, that was it. And I know we have all that a thousand times on every freaking MMO blog out there, but the difference this time is that I actually experienced it.

I don’t really have anything super special in my chosen niche, it is just a ratty old PR3 blog with about 500 articles, probably 400 of which are not really keyword targeted worth a crap. I am a slow learner, what can I say.

Anyway the site is about 3 years old, going on 4, and it does have a crap ton of crappy links pointed at it. Not good links, just about 20 thousand crappy ones with a few good ones thrown in. And the URL is way off topic which I guess allows me to try to rank for whatever the hell I want, which is both good and bad I supppose.

So I was making a solid $300 or so per month from this site and then I had this breakthrough. Well I made 40 keyword targeted posts and then sent some more crappy links at them. POW. My income shot up. I am not sure how much based on just those 40 posts, but I think it was between $100 and $175 per month. That is per month. That is recurring income. That is super bonus land here, people. Are you doing some math yet, because I am and I am way super excited now hand me that freaking diet Mountain Dew so I can crank out some more content here Yowsa!

So that was my breakthrough moment, my income shot up to about double the $300/month figure, and if you make 10 bucks an hour working a crappy day job like I do then you know this is a BIG DEAL. For me anyway. Yes Griz just posted that he makes oodles and oodles of money per month and that is huge inspiration for me. Actually the exact number is a bit too big for me to really make sense of as my monthly expenses are under a thousand bucks and I snack on Ramen noodles at times! Of course Griz makes some money outside of Adsense too and I am sure he knows how to make money with Amazon as well.

So anyway, the breakthrough moment. It means nothing unless you follow it up with mad action and that is really what this breakthrough was all about. I figured out what Ben was teaching all along but I was too scared to face it head on. Well this morning I faced the demon head on and I won. Here is what I did: I took massive action.

Let me explain what I did. I am doing mad keyword research of course, as expertly taught by Court and Mark. I have my growing list of keywords to target and I am doing a bit more research each day just to fill up the old spreadsheet and give me plenty to write about. This is obviously the first step in making money this way and without this knowledge of picking good keywords I would be lost. Without this knowledge, those 40 posts that I wrote a few weeks ago would not have doubled my income. Hell I have over 400 posts on my money site that do not make me squat. You think keyword research is important? Um, yeah. It is.

So here is what I did. I have been tooling along with my plan to write 4 articles per day to target all of these great keywords. Adding 40 posts did so great for my site that I figure, why not add a whole crap ton more? So 4 per day is 120 per month and that will be rocking I figure.

My breakthrough was this though: this morning, I conceived of the 25 post per day challenge. So I woke up at 6AM and at 6:30 I started pecking out my first post. At 11:53AM I hit the publish button and had finished the 25th post. That is over 10 thousand words in about 5 hours and now my neck hurts real bad.

I have a few days off each week even though I work my day job full time and my plan now is to duplicate this massive action 25 post challenge 2 days each week. That’s right I am gonna wake up and do it again tomorrow too. 50 posts per week plus 4 minimum on the other 5 days each week is gonna total about 280 posts per month.

I have the domain authority to be able to crank this stuff out and rank decent for it. To be honest I am not watching rankings or anything, I am just cranking out the keyword targeted posts and the money is steady rising. If I notice the income platuea too much then I will switch things up and go build links again.

But the bottom line is that I got a real taste of what getting back to the basics could do for my income and now I am going to attack this thing with full force. Taking massive action is the key and if you want to see results you need to take massive action. Yes we have all heard this a million times I am sure but when you actually put your nose to the grindstone and crank out an incredible amount of work then you start to see how your efforts can be multiplied.

I for one am not content to put up one post per day anymore. I am gonna be taking the 25-posts-per-day-challenge a total of about 8 times in September and this is going to absolutely skyrocket my income.

I am tired of reading about Ben and how he can just put in all this massive action and get massive results and here I am slaving away at my day job when I could be creating the passive income stream instead. So I have made the mental shift and now it is simply a matter of follow through. I have my keywords and I have my challenge days mapped out and I powered through the challenge this morning and did ten thousand words without even really breaking a sweat. Heck I just wrote this ridiculous sized post later the same afternoon and I am also sitting here doing some keyword research so what the heck? Maybe I should have made it the 50 post per day challenge or something.

So we will see what happens. I am guessing my income will go up and up and up. Plus, I just gave you guys the keys to the kingdom. You have to do 3 things:

1) Good keyword research (go see Court, etc.)
2) Build links (of which I have enough already to rank decent for the keywords I select)
3) Write new content like a freaking madman.

That is it. Take massive action and you will actually get some results. I worked for like 3 years straight on my money site and then suddenly I have this breakthrough and I double the income in less than 90 days. What the heck.

The nice thing is that I am now set to double it again in about half that time. Because now I know the whole secret. Massive action. I never wanted to believe it before. I secretly hoped for a shortcut to making money on the web, like we probably all do. But the secret is to find the good keywords and then crank that crap out like a lunatic. If you don’t have any domian authority you will need to build links too. Goes without saying, naturally.

Massive action, people. I know Ben has already taught us this. But I was too stubborn to learn it at first. Now I see the light. Thank you everyone who has shown me the path……
