Changing Strategy Slightly for Passive Income Growth

I recently changed up my strategy for passive income growth.

I am still at around the $300 to $400 dollar mark for each month, and it is still growing steadily. I think if it were December or January I would hit $400 easily. But since it is sort of the internet “off season,” I am not quite hitting my maximum potential right now. My long term goals are still $700 per month in one year from now, and $1,000 per month in two years from now.

But recently I had some insight into my strategy. I was spending about $200 per month on promotional tools. These were helping a lot but I think they have become a bit less useful as I used them up on all my good content. And I sort of got to a point and said: “I have built links like a maniac to all my keywords. How can I grow my income further? How can I continue to make money online?”

There are 2 answers to this question: rank better for your keywords or target new ones. I have been focusing on ranking better for my existing keywords.

Now I am going to target some new ones.

To do this, I bit the bullet and bought a new keyword research tool called SEMrush. It cost me about 60 bucks for a month to use it, but I have already built a good list of about 30 new words I am going to go after, and that was after only a few days of research.

I am going to find about 30 to 100 more keywords that I find to be suitable to target, and then I’m going to focus on superb content generation for a few months. Maybe for like 90 days or something. Hopefully by the end of that time frame I will have about 40 to 60 new “pillar articles” that target profitable keywords. These are not just fluff articles that I am writing, these are in-depth, quality, pillar content. The idea behind writing stellar content in a profitable niche is so that these articles can build links naturally over time, instead of just being fluff pieces that will need to have links manually built to each one.

Then, after I get an idea of what is generating traffic and what is not, I will switch back to a focus on link building again, and buy some more promotional tools at that time.

This clear separation between keyword research, writing content, and building links will hopefully help me to become more profitable over time. I need to make a huge push to get a lot of keyword research done all at once, so that I can concentrate on cranking out quality articles for a while, and then later on in a few months I will shift gears back to link building.

That’s the plan.
