One of the big questions we have to ask ourselves on the road to an automated income is this: Just what constitutes “work?”
People out there might say “Just find a job you love, and you’ll never have to work another day in your life.” This isn’t exactly what we’re looking to do here, though.
I have a job. And I love my work. It’s meaningful work, and personally relevant to me as well. But I still have to show up for 40 hours each week.
That’s a huge distinction there. I do not have the luxury of just coming and going as I please.
I still have a boss. I’m still held accountable.
Love it or not, this is work. Plain and simple.
For our purposes here on this website, work is most accurately defined as trading hours of your life for dollars that you are dependent on to live with.
Got that? If you need to make money to live, and you have to trade hours of your life to get that money, then you are WORKING. Doesn’t matter if you “love your job” or not, nor does it matter to what degree you love your job.
Someone might say, “no really….I truly love my job. I would do this on a volunteer basis.”
Fine. I would too, if I didn’t need the money! See the difference? It has to do with your level of dependence on that job.
This website is all about reducing our dependence on the idea of trading hours and hours of our life for dollars that we need to live with.
This essentially means exploring:
1) Generating passive income streams
2) Developing systems that make money for us
3) Practicing frugality so that we need less money to live on
The goal isn’t to make a million dollars this year. The goal is to enjoy a higher degree of time freedom. Being able to live simply and not worry about money so much while working 40+ hours each week till we’re exhausted. That is the goal. Time freedom.
