So I am now making $1,000/month in passive income. Check it out, this is for August 2010, see the pic down below in this post.
This is for a single website (not this one).
It took me 4 years to get this website to this point, but admittedly, I did not know what the heck I was doing for about the first 3 years. Now I know what I am doing, and can probably take the site a lot further in the months to come.
Some quick stats about my site:
* 4 years old.
* About 2,000 articles total. Most are 400 to 600 words, maybe 10 percent are over a 1,000 words. A handful are over 5,000 words.
* Quite a few comments. Some posts have 400+ comments. Most only have a few.
* Just under 1,000 RSS readers.
* Averaging about 1,400 uniques per day, as measured by Google Analytics.
I have experimented with other forms of monetization, but nothing seems to beat Adsense at this point. This will vary of course depending on site and topic matter, etc.
Adsense has a huge advantage in that you do not have to deal with customers, ever. At all. You just have to keep the big G happy. That is it. Once you have a large website with lots of high quality articles on it, you have a very good foundation for keeping G happy.

If you want to know how to get to this point, here are the tips I can offer:
* Put all of your effort into one website. The reason for this is that you only have to build link domain authority once. If you have 25 niche sites, then you have to build link authority for all 25 of those sites, separately. Building links is hard.
* Learn a way to select good keywords to target. If you write a thousand posts, and they are all about keywords that are either too hard to rank for, or not being searched enough, then you have wasted your time. I learned how to pick the right keywords by joining the Keyword Academy and using their tools.
* Figure on working for a long time without seeing any income coming in. You have to get over this hump in order to get to the good part. Most quit before they achieve this. A good rule of thumb might be going from $0 dollars to $100 dollars per month at the end of one year, and then going from $100 per month to $1000 per month by the end of the second year. This is only if you know exactly what you are doing and put in consistent work, every single week. It took me 4 years because I did not know what I was doing, nor did I put in consistent work, every single day.
* If I had to start over again, from scratch, I would take a couple thousand bucks and buy an established website to build on. Something with a few years of age, a real content website, with at least some links coming in. It is either that, or you have to painstakingly build a site from scratch, and then beg and claw your way to get more links, AND let the thing age for a while, before you are ready to earn real money with it. Better to short cut that process and buy yourself a starter kit! Just a thought. Of course, finding a decent site like the one described is going to be hard, and you are going to pay a premium for it if they owner knows the true value of such a site….

That is very cool, not many people reach your level of awesomeness. Now you can write an ebook on the process and cash in on the process some more :)
Wow, this is very good news and I know what you mean by “creating a website from scratch”. It is hard work and without me knowing anything about backlinks, I am just hoping to get a few visitors to my new website. It will take a bit of time but I know if I stay consistent that it will pay off. Thanks for this post, it has inspired me to keep it going.
Hi again – ignore my previous question – I now see it was pretty dumb ! I hadn’t put my brain in gear, I was looking at your adsense earnings and wondering if it all came from Adsense ! Lol – how dumb -very embarrassed . Thanks for the tips on concentrating on one site.
