If I look at my existing website, I make money writing, to the tune of about $400 per month or so.
Now I target keywords and then I write posts and if I get really motivated I build links.
I have done a poor job at this thus far in my internet marketing career. I have 500 posts on my main money site. 40 of these posts are making any money to speak of. That is, these 40 posts are all making at least a buck each month. Now, the bottom 16 of those posts are making less than 3 dollars each, per month.
About another 14 of those posts make between 3 and 10 bucks each, per month.
And the top 10 posts on the website total about half of the monthly income each month. They make from around 10 bucks to 35 bucks each, per month. Mostly down closer to 10 though.
Folks, this is basically a long tail website. The “head,” in my case, it making no money at all. The medium tail we might call it is making half the money. And the long tail is making half the money.
So what I’m gonna do is to take the part I can easily do and crank it out. I am gonna take the long tail stuff and crank out an average of 4 posts each day for the next few months. This is all based on stuff I have researched the keywords for, so that I know it is somewhat easy to rank for. Long tail stuff. So I am gonna attack that long tail and simply duplicate my previous efforts. Those 10 posts that make half the money, I am going to ignore because I had to build a TON of links in order to get anywhere with those. But the other 30 posts are simply long tail stuff that ranked on its own for the most part. I am gonna duplicate those posts, and in fact I am gonna do 4 times that amount every single month. I am mining data in my stats to research new keywords to target and those will be in these new posts as well.
Gonna try 4 posts per day average and crank out 120 new posts each month on my money site. Not gonna build links to individual articles during this time. I will definitely evaluate my efforts and let you know how this experiment goes. The goal is to get up to $800/month in income over the next 6 months.
Back when I added 40 keyword targeted posts and backlinked them all, my income increased by about $150 per month, from what I can tell. So now I am planning on adding about 2 to 3 times that much content each month. Later on I will probably go in to my stats, figure out which posts are getting a trickle of traffic, and then give them some serious backlink work.
This method more closely mirrors what Griz does with his new sites he makes. He tests, tests, tests before he settles down in a niche and then pumps it for money. In the same way, I am going to be using the strength of my domain to see what keywords are pulling in easy traffic, then I will boost them after I get an idea of what is pulling in visitors. It is all about doing good keyword research now and then casting a very wide net. Cranking out 4 posts per day will give a huge amount of opportunity in only a few short months.
Then, crank out backlinks. Win. Make money from home in your underwear. etc.
