Make Money Online Update

Just a quick note here to say that I am running full steam ahead on trying to get to a full time income online here. Since the recession hit my earnings have leveled off a bit, which is actually a sign of growth, because they should have went down dramatically. But they basically stayed the same over the last 6 months or so, and that is a good thing, because the average cost per click on most keywords in the Adsense program seemed to drop by about half. In other words, advertisers have scaled back quite a bit and so the money you can make as an Adsense publisher right now is only about, say, 60 percent of what it was a year ago. Not a big deal though as the earnings will go up quite nicely after we come out of this recession and the money starts flowing again.

I am also doing an experiment that sort of swept the internet lately called the Hubpages challenge. Hubpages is a website in which you can publish an individual hub about any topic and then have your Adsense placed on it. Hubpages takes 40 percent of the impressions and you get 60 percent. Sounds like a bum deal at first until you realize how much easier it is to rank for stuff. So I have built and published 100 hubs and now I am building some links to each of them. I actually have 6 more hubs to write and I will be done publishing hubs and I will have 118 total, then I will start on the link building and I plan on building 1 strong link to each hub to start with by writing approximately 60 short articles. My plan is to knock that out within 30 days or less and at that point I hope to be making at least a hundred bucks per month from the hubs, hopefully closer to 3 or 4 hundred though. I also spent about 300 dollars outsourcing content in order to get the hubs written but I fully wrote 60 of them myself and they are over 800 words each. The other 40 I outsourced but added a few paragraphs into each one.

Creating the links is going to be a ton of work.

When I woke up this morning and checked my income from yesterday, I was shocked to see it at just over 26 dollars! That is quit-your-day-job kind of money in my book so I got excited, but unfortunately I do not think any of that money came from the published hubs just yet. It was all from my main money site. The hubs need links before they will produce.

There is also a worry that the hubpages site will get “slapped” eventually by Google, and any income from them will drop considerably as a result. So one strategy is to reinvest any hubpage income into my self hosted wordpress site (that is already profitable and is not as likely to be penalized in the future like Hubpages is).

So it’s exciting times. I am confident that within less than a year I can be at over $500 per month from my passive online income.

Hi,

You should set up channels so you know where your money is coming from! Even if you don’t do it for your hubs (which is a lot of work) you could still do it for your other sites, like your money site. Then you will know by process of elimination when that is Hubpages revenue.

Also, I’m curious are you expecting to be able to stop working at $500/month? Do you live outside the US?

Hi there,
Just wanted to say congratulations on doing the hub challenge. I read about it too and decided to give it a go. I have about 7 hubs to go with 6 days remaining. As you can imagine, I am very pleased with myself. I am not in the league of the money making SEO giants like Court and Ben at make money online with seo.com but with my little efforts, I have made some money. Today was a great day as I earned $5 just from hubs. So that can’t be bad.
I wish you all the best with your endeavours and hope that we will both be able to sun ourselves somewhere exotic, living off our passive earnings.
