No more fluff posts. That is the new mantra.
If you do some keyword research, and write a quality post about something, then build a few links to it, then you have created an asset that might generate up to a dollar each or even more.
I have one post that makes an average of 3 dollars each day. For just one post!
Now imagine if you are creating a new post like this every single day, you will be achieving goals quick this way. The idea is that you do not want to just post something on your site just to be posting. If it does not have the potential to bring in long term search traffic, then why bother with it? You are wasting your time and should instead be focusing on a keyword-targeted article.
This requires discipline and daily action. Run out of keywords to target and write about? Then do more research. You either have to target new keywords or rank better for your existing ones. That means you can either build links, or write new content. If you write new content then it had darn well better target different keywords so that you can bring in additional search engine traffic.
Those are really the only 2 ways to grow a site as far as targeting search engine traffic. Build links or create new content. And if your new content is not keyword optimized and trying to deliberately rank for some keyword phrases, then you are wasting your time.
I mentioned earlier that I have one past that makes 3 bucks every single day. On the other side of the coin, I have over 300 posts that do not make even 1 dollar per month. This is ridiculous. A lot of that effort was wasted, but a lot of it was done while I was still learning how to do this stuff.
If I could go back and start over, I would probably target new keywords on every single post, and also slow down my posting schedule and write higher quality content. Having 300 fluff posts that do not draw in any traffic does not do me any good.
These days I have a more concrete plan, that follows this simple routine:
1) Keyword research – find good quality keywords that I know I can probably rank for over time, and target them with a quality post
2) Writing quality posts that target these keywords and publishing them
3) Building links to the posts with the desired anchor text
That’s it. Rinse and repeat. Adsense tips are only going to take you so far. Then you have to get out there and crank out the quality, keyword focused content for those search engines to crawl.
Now, a lot of my time in internet marketing is actually wasted reading about how to do internet marketing. I am already making about $400 per month from my efforts so why do I need to learn more? I don’t. I need to do more. And those 3 activities above are what it is all about. If I’m not doing one of those 3 things then I’m likely wasting my time.
