Simple Math that Shows How Online Earnings from Websites Can Be Scaled Up to Create Additional Income for You

by Patrick Meninga

So let us say that you have a website and you have been working on it for a year or so and it has maybe 200 articles on it. You have built some links here and there and maybe you got like one or two “real links” from other websites in your niche. At this point maybe you have AdSense on the site and you are pulling in a solid $300 per month, let’s say.

So you want to be free from your day job and you want to live on passive income and not have to sell your soul and trade your time for money. So you say to yourself:

“How can I raise my level of income?”

Now on the outside looking in, the answer might seem obvious. But it is SO EASY to get distracted and try to find all sorts of “easy” ways to increase your income.

For example, many people think to themselves: “Aha! I have some decent traffic now, and I make money from ads, but I could be making TWICE as much money if my click through rate were to double somehow!” So they waste lots of time playing with ad layouts and tweaking things to try and get their site to perform better. Little do they realize that CTR is almost always a function of the audience type and the keyword searched for, rather than the ad layout.

In other words, people searching for something like “instant acne cure” are going to have a higher CTR than people searching for something like “optimal crop rotation.” See the difference? It does not matter how much you tweak and play with the ad layouts and colors for “optimal crop rotation,” because those people are just not in a buying mood. They are looking for free info. They are not desperate for a solution to anything. But the CTR on the acne search is going to much higher, regardless of ad layout, because that audience is more desperate to purchase a product.

So what is the answer? How do you increase your income?

The answer is simple math. You have 200 articles and you make $300 per month.

So when you have 400 articles you should make roughly $600 per month.

And when you have 1,000 articles on your site you should make roughly $1,500 per month.

Simple math.

In reality, the numbers will actually be a bit more kind to you than this, in all likelihood. Some additional factors will come into play as your site gains age, authority, trust, and continues to get bigger and bigger. But ultimately these estimates are not very far off at all. You should assume they are correct, and then motivate yourself to set and reach your publishing goals.

Creating 1,000 articles may sound like a lot, but it is actually really easy. Simple crank out 3 articles per day and you will be there in less than a year. The key, of course, is consistency. You have to do it every single day, without fail.

I have said it before and I will say it again:

Any given person can start a website, publish 3 quality articles per day, and within a few years they will have a powerful income stream. Most do not have the guts to follow through with this though.
