I have 2 weeks of paid time off coming up next month, so the question is gnawing away at me: “How can I best use that time to generate future income?” What is the best bang for my buck when it comes to using this extra time in my online ventures?
Content creation for my main money website is almost completely useless, but I keep doing it every day out of habit, and for my readers. Plus I think there is some small value in building up the long tail of search for it by making hundreds of pages of solid content, but this should not be a growth strategy. It takes too long.
Backlinks are the key when you are using keywords to make money. Getting solid one way links is the key. With good anchor text. This is all that matters in my pursuit of passive income. When I get good links, I get better rankings and Google (and Yahoo) send me more targeted traffic. It is easy as pie to turn that traffic into money so what I really need is more links. That is the best use of my time.
Now I use all the available resources that I have to build links and this helps a lot but it is not enough. It has not yet got me to where I want to be and so I need to do more somehow. Right now I have a handful of websites that are all on the same IP with the same hosting account and this is not exactly a valuable farm.
So my intention is to make a worthwhile farm. I have investigated the idea of doing this on my paid hosting account but I think it might be too expensive (at least at first). It seems like the gurus that I follow online can build up a strong network using free resources, such as Squidoo Lenses and Blogger blogs. So I might investigate going that route as well.
The bottom line is that I have hit a bit of a wall here with my link building and that is going to create a wall as far as my income growth is concerned. The only way to jump over this hurdle is to find new ways to create links to my websites and that means creating some leverage somehow. Having a solid network of websites (even if it is just 5 to 10 sites) that carry decent keyword authority and all sit on seperate IP’s is the goal here. Then I can boost this farm in the same way I have boosted my main site and then use the farm to boost my money site.
The bonus here is that the farm can later be utilized again to boost another money site down the road (obviously in the same topic or category as relevancy is important for links).
So that is the new homework assignment for this time off: plan out the farm and get it built. Choose platforms to use and throw up some Blog Content. Start building links to the farm and get it rolling. Then let it age a bit and keep the links coming in and pretty soon it will be ready to juice up my money site.
